Tax Preparers Targeting Poor With High Fees By Campbell Robertson

BEWARE of commercial tax preparers that file inaccurate returns and charge exorbitant prices. According to Campbell Robertson (The New York Times reporter), the problems range from “excessive fees to incompetence to outright fraud.” Be suspicious of incorrectly claimed school credits which will falsely inflate your refund. Thus, allowing the dishonest tax preparer to take half for themselves then vanish.

Pitfalls of Reverse Mortgages May Pass to Borrower’s Heirs By Jessica Silver-Greenberg

BEWARE homeowners, estate planners and family members of elderly parent; a “reverse mortgage” means that the homeowner is exchanging ownership rights to the house for cash payments. Thus, under a reverse mortgage the property belongs to the lender (bank) and not the family (heirs). Remember, “if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is”. Adult children must continue to stay involved in the lives of their elderly parents and pay more attention to the financial decisions their parents may be making.

Walking down Avenue of the Americas...

Walking down Avenue of the Americas, it becomes apparent that a new testament to New Yorkers’ strength and resolve has reclaimed the sky. Although One World Trade Center (WTC Progress) has taken 26,000 people, eight years and billions of dollars to complete; there is no doubt in the minds of Resicom NYC employees that One World Trade Center has recaptured the New York skyline and reasserts downtown Manhattan’s stature as the center of business.

The former American Folk Art Museum | West 53rd Street off Avenue of the Americas

Resicom NYC staff members recently walked past the former American Folk Art Museum (West 53rd Street off Avenue of the Americas) and were reminded of the following NYTimes article, "The Museum With a Bulldozer's Heart: Moma's Plan to Demolish Folk Art Museum Lacks Vision" (http://nyti.ms/1j5rmQl). So instead of rushing past what will eventually be torn down, they stopped for a minute to photograph and appreciate what once was and will no longer be a member of New York City's pantheon of contemporary architecture.

He survived 47-floor plunge - and now walks for charity By Susan Edelman

An article on the miraculous recovery of Alcides Moreno, the window cleaner who survived a terrifying, 47-story plunge when his scaffolding broke on December 7, 2007. It is an inspiring story of a man who survived and thrived through adversity and a prime example of the defiant power of the human spirit.
